Countless times throughout my career in teaching, a great deal of which was dealing with pastoral matters, I had parents in my office at their wits end due to their kid having Special Educational Needs, be they behavioural or academic. Some fairly routine but no less worrying, some genuinely toe curling.

That's all I can find to say about the recent Lancet Report which puts the casualties in Iraq since the 2003 invasion at well over 600,000, and that's on top of the 1.5 million acknowledged deaths caused by the "genocidal" (Denis Halliday, UN Under Secretary General) sanctions regime from 1990 onwards.

I am genuinely sorry to see Clare Short's departure form the Labour Party as no one can contest that she really means it, a true Socialist who is in politics for all the right reasons.
